Introduction to Service in Addicts Anonymous
Service is at the heart of Addicts Anonymous. It is one of the three pillars of our program—alongside Recovery and Unity—and it is how we keep the fellowship strong, the message clear, and ourselves grounded in spiritual action.

In Addicts Anonymous, service isn’t about prestige or authority. It’s about responsibility, humility, and gratitude in action. By giving back freely what was given to us, we help ensure that anyone, anywhere who reaches out for help can find it.

Service can take many forms: sharing at meetings, setting up chairs, mentoring new members, participating in group conscience, helping with literature or administration, supporting area or world service committees, or simply offering a warm welcome to a newcomer. Every act of service matters.

Through service, we practice getting out of ourselves. We learn patience, empathy, and accountability. We strengthen our own recovery while helping others discover theirs. In Addicts Anonymous, no one is required to serve—but we know that those who do often find their recovery deepening in ways they never imagined.

If you’re new, there’s always a place for you to help, in your own time and way. If you’re experienced, there’s always someone who can use your guidance. We believe service is the lifeblood of our fellowship—a way to stay connected, grateful, and free.
Join us in service. Help us carry the message. Together, we recover.
